Super creepy Medusa columns in the Basilica Cistern. Nobody knows the real story behind them. Some say they were brought from Rome because they ran out of columns for the Basilica and her head was used on swords and stuff to keep away bad omen. She was supposedly a beautiful girl with beautiful black hair and eyes who was in love with Perseus, son of Zeus. Goddess Athena was jealous of this so cursed Medusa. She turned her hair into snakes and whomever she looked at turned into stone. Perseus saw that Medusa was bewitched, cut her head off and then won many wars by showing off her head at battle. The Bitch. Men, I tell ya. Poor Medusa. #Istanbul (at Yerebatan Sarnıcı | Basilica Cistern)
